BHMCT Eligibility Criteria Maharashtra 2026

BHMCT Eligibility Criteria in Maharashtra: 2026 Guidelines for AISSMS CHMCT:
Building a successful career in the global hospitality sector begins with fulfilling the fundamental academic prerequisites. If you are planning to pursue a 4-year Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology at a premier institute like AISSMS CHMCT, understanding the official BHMCT eligibility criteria Maharashtra is your very first step. These criteria are strictly laid down by the State Common Entrance Test Cell and the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra, ensuring that all enrolling students possess the necessary academic foundation to handle the rigorous curriculum of hospitality education.
This comprehensive guide strictly outlines the academic, demographic, and examination prerequisites you must meet to be considered eligible for the 2026 intake. (If you have already confirmed your eligibility and wish to view the application steps, please visit our Admissions 2026 page, or check the Fee Structure page for financial planning).

The Importance of Meeting State-Regulated Qualifications:
Because the BHMCT is an AICTE-approved professional degree program, the eligibility parameters are non-negotiable. Failing to meet even a single criterion—such as a percentage shortfall or lacking the appropriate entrance exam score—will result in the immediate disqualification of your candidature during the centralized verification process. It is highly recommended that students and parents thoroughly review these requirements before investing time in the application process.

Core Academic Qualifications Required for BHMCT:
The baseline educational requirement to enter the BHMCT program focuses on your higher secondary schooling.

Recognized Educational Boards and Equivalency To be eligible, a candidate must have passed the HSC (Class 12 / 10+2) examination or its equivalent. The passing certificate must be issued by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or any other recognized National or State Board (such as CBSE, CISCE/ICSE, IB, or state-specific boards). Students who have completed a 3-year diploma in a relevant technical or vocational field after Class 10 may also be considered eligible as per the equivalence guidelines issued by the competent state authority.

Subject Prerequisites at the 10+2 Level Unlike engineering or medical degrees that require a strict science background, the BHMCT program welcomes students from all academic streams. Whether you have studied Arts, Commerce, Science, or Vocational studies in your 11th and 12th grades, you are entirely eligible to apply. The diverse nature of the hospitality industry thrives on varied academic backgrounds.

Minimum Percentage Requirements by Category Merely passing the 12th-grade examination is not sufficient. The Government of Maharashtra has established strict percentage thresholds that applicants must clear in their qualifying HSC examination.
General/Open Category Candidates For candidates belonging to the Open/General category, as well as all Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates regardless of their caste, securing a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the 10+2 examination is absolutely mandatory.

Reserved Categories and PwD Candidates (Maharashtra State) To promote inclusive education, the state provides a relaxation in the percentage criteria for specific demographics. Candidates belonging to Backward Class categories (SC, ST, VJ/DT, NT(A), NT(B), NT(C), NT(D), OBC, SBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Disability (PwD) require a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in their 10+2 examination. Crucial Note: This 5% relaxation is strictly applicable only to candidates who hold a valid domicile in the State of Maharashtra. Reserved category students from other states will be treated as General Category and must meet the 45% threshold.

The MAH BHMCT CET Requirement:
Academic marks alone do not grant eligibility. A fundamental pillar of the BHMCT eligibility criteria in Maharashtra is the state-level entrance examination.

Every single applicant targeting the 4-year BHMCT degree must appear for the MAH BHMCT CET (Common Entrance Test) for the relevant academic year (e.g., CET 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic intake). To be deemed eligible for the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) rounds, a candidate must obtain a non-zero positive score in this examination. If a candidate fails to take the exam, or scores a zero or negative mark, they are instantly disqualified from the admission process, regardless of how high their 12th-grade board percentage might be. (For detailed syllabus and pattern of this exam, please refer to our dedicated MAH BHMCT CET Exam page).

Nationality, Domicile, and Demographic Eligibility
Your geographical background dictates the specific quota under which you are eligible to apply. The overarching rule is that the candidate must be an Indian National.

Maharashtra State (MS) Candidature To claim MS Candidature and benefit from state-level reservations and percentage relaxations, a candidate must either be born in Maharashtra or possess a valid Maharashtra State Domicile Certificate.

Outside Maharashtra State (OMS)  All India Candidature Candidates who are Indian nationals but do not hold a Maharashtra domicile fall under the All India (AI) Candidature. These students are highly encouraged to apply, as a specific percentage of seats at AISSMS CHMCT is reserved for All India candidates. They will compete based on their MAH BHMCT CET scores under the Open category guidelines.

NRI, PIO, OCI, and Foreign National Candidates Students belonging to Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), or Foreign National categories have separate eligibility norms. Generally, they must have passed an equivalent 10+2 examination with 45% marks. Depending on state guidelines for the current year, the CET requirement may be waived for these specific supernumerary quotas, subject to AICTE and university clearance.
