As the Training and Placement Head of AISSMS CHMCT, Pune, I often remind students that interviews are not just a selection process—they are a reflection of your overall readiness for the hospitality industry. Being interview-ready is not about last-minute preparation; it is about consistent self-work and awareness.
In hospitality, first impressions carry immense weight. Your grooming, body language, eye contact, and the way you greet the interviewer set the tone within the first few seconds. A well-ironed uniform, confident posture, and a genuine smile communicate professionalism long before you answer your first question.
Equally important is the habit of testing yourself. Participate in mock interviews, industry interactions, internships, and live training sessions. These platforms help you evaluate whether you are truly prepared. Ask yourself honestly—if I were the employer, would I select myself? Seeing whether you “have takers” is one of the most realistic ways to assess your industry readiness.
Strong interview techniques are essential. Listen carefully, understand the question, and respond with clarity. Avoid memorized answers; instead, focus on structured, honest responses. Interviewers in hospitality look for attitude, adaptability, and willingness to learn as much as technical skills.
That said, basic technical knowledge is non-negotiable. Whether it is service styles, front office procedures, housekeeping operations, or kitchen fundamentals, you must be clear with your basics. Employers expect you to know what you have studied and how it applies on the job.
Confidence plays a critical role—but remember, confidence is not arrogance. It comes from preparation and self-belief. Additionally, being aware of current affairs and hospitality trends—such as sustainability, new hotel brands, or food trends—shows curiosity and industry awareness.
Preparation today determines placement tomorrow. Be proactive, be informed, and always stay interview-ready.
